| Abstract Text | This thesis describes SSE - a system for automatically retrieving the sample size from an empirical study. SSE employs a three-stage pipelined architecture. The first stage utilizes Pattern Matching in order to extract potentially relevant sentence fragements from a document. The second stage is responsible for rule-based filtering of the matches returned in the first level. The last and most important stage is accountable for the application of case-specific heuristics in order to return the correct sample size for the document. The strengths of SSE can be seen in the fact that it is applicable to a variety of research publications. |
| Zusammenfassung | Diese Arbeit beschreibt das Konzept von SSE - einem System zur automatischen Extraktion der Stichprobengrösse aus empirischen Studien. SSE verfügt über eine 3-Stufen Pipeline Architektur. Die erste Stufe beschäftigt sich mit Pattern Matching und der Extraktion von relevanten Satzfragmenten von einem Dokument. Die zweite Stufe sorgt für die regelgebundene Filterung von den zurückgegebenen Treffern aus Stufe 1. Die letzte Stufe dient der Anwendung von fallspezifischen Heuristiken, um von der Menge interessanter Zahlen die richtigen für ein Dokument zu extrahieren. Die Stärke von SSE liegt im Potential begründet, für eine grosse Varietät von empirischen Studien Anwendung zu finden. |
