Abstract Text | In order to determine the right dosage of medication and size of medical equipment, the body height of infant patients is a frequently used indicator. We assume that the reliability and efficiency of measuring the patient's height could be improved by a software running on smartphones and tablets, which are already integrated in daily medical routine. We developed a first prototype: the "Optisizer" is an augmented reality app developed for the Android platform. It lets the user take a picture of a scene containing a 2D bar code fiducial tag and measure arbitrary distances lying in the plane in which the tag is located by positioning a virtual meter on the picture. To make the Optisizer more reliable we use a numerical approximation to estimate the error and display error bounds to the user. Our app allows measuring a patient's body height reliably within seconds. |
