Bruno Frey, Alois Stutzer, Ökonomische Analyse des Glücks: Inspirationen und Herausforderungen, Die Unternehmung, Vol. 3, 2009. (Journal Article)

Sergio Marsella, Entwicklung einer PM-Plattform für das mioBook, University of Zurich, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, 2009. (Bachelor's Thesis)
In various companies and other organisations, information and means of
communication are increasingly provided by platforms that can be accessed by a
browser without being dependent of a particular location. Portals represent a special
kind of modern platforms, which easily allow to work with information, applications
and processes through a single point of access.
At the Department of Informatics at the University of Zurich, the research area Man -
Informatics - Organization (MIO) runs a PM-platform which is based on the WCMS
called Plone. This bachelor thesis works on the extension of the existing platform
through additional modules and a new design.
Amongst other things, the extensions are based on the fundamentals of portals and
especially of project portals. Apart from the documentation of the whole process of
integrating the new elements into the existing PM-platform, these fundamentals
represent the main focus of the present paper. |

Roman Sebastian Haag, E-Glossary - Das Glossar als wissensvermittelndes Element in einem eLearning System, University of Zurich, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, 2009. (Master's Thesis)
This thesis compares various open-source learning management systems on their functionality in relation to a glossary. The picture of an ,,optimal glossary`` gets created. An analysis of usable standards for storing a glossary shows that a new format needs to be defined. The glossary in OLAT (Learning Management System at the University of Zurich) will be enhanced in glossary-functionality and be connected to a morphological service. |

Michael Küchler, Coupling in ChangePrism: Enhancing ChangePrism with Coupling, University of Zurich, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, 2009. (Bachelor's Thesis)
Coupling describes dependencies between different modules of a software project, which can be an important factor in respect to the past and future development. But still the ChangePrism, an application developed at the s.e.a.l. lab of the University of Zurich for visualization of software development, visualizes the development of software only on the basis of data collected by a versioning system. This thesis describes an enhancement of the ChangePrism in order to letting the tool include information about the coupling into its visualization. The new data used by ChangePrism is a FAMIX model of the analyzed project’s sources, and the existing visualization is enriched with that data in different ways. The new functionality of the ChangePrism was finally evaluated with the analysis of the Eclipse JDT Core project. |

Stefan Hutter, Co-evolution of Morphology and Controller of a Simulated Underactuated Quadruped Robot using Evolutionary Algorithms, University of Zurich, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, 2009. (Bachelor's Thesis)
For this thesis, a framework for co?evolution of body and controller parameters for a virtual
underactuated quadruped robot has been developed. To evaluate a robot, its travelled distance from
the starting point is measured. Two algorithms are available to select the parents for the next
generation: A leaders only algorithm selecting only the best individuals and a roulette wheel
algorithm giving every individual a certain chance to become parent. The reproduction is done by
mutation of randomly chosen parameters of the parent.
Experiments on the model based on AI Lab’s Puppy II robot revealed that the influence of the leg
length is crucial. But also the optimization of only controller settings and spring affected parameters
results in a 56% fitness improvement compared to the initial robot model. |

Stefan Holm, Data Management for Terrain Rendering, University of Zurich, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, 2009. (Bachelor's Thesis)
In this bachelor thesis, the terrain rendering system named RASTeR developped by the Vi-
sualization and MultiMedia Lab (VMML) of the University of Zurich has to be extended to be
able to manage different datasets in one planetary coordinate system. Furthermore, the existing
presentation of the terrain on a plane has to be changed to a presentation on a globe, so that the
earth can be seen in its natural form. In addition, the existing GUI should be ported from GLUT
to Qt and extended by a overflight-mode. The result, an extended implementation of RASTeR,
is able to manage numerous datasets at the same time. This is possible because high-resolution
tiles can be, when required, connected to a basetree at run-time. The GUI has been successfully
ported to Qt and extended by the requested functionality, as well as the data is now presented
on a globe. However, the transitions between different tiles are visible and the selection of the
appropriate level of detail doesn’t work adequately, which causes sometimes a laggy, sometimes
a blurry representation of the terrain. The existing implementation didn’t allow to just extend
it to the new behaviour; a big part of the application should have been rebuilt to meet the new
requierments. However, it was not possible to completely achieve this within the limits of this
thesis. |

Sebastian Müller, Change Prism: A Java Visualization for Software Changes, University of Zurich, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, 2009. (Bachelor's Thesis)
There are already some visualizations available on the open market that are able to visualize source code files, packages and authors in a threedimensional space. However, none of these visualizations focus on the individual developer and his influence on the entire project or the relationship between the work of different developers. The visualization described in this Bachelor Thesis aims to do this.
Inspired by blank, a new visualization was developed. The visualization follows the same principle in order to map the code files which a developer has modified into a threedimensional diagram. This offers the opportunity to uncover the ""path"" a developer takes through the software system.
The idea was implemented in Java as a standalone application. The necessary metadata about the developers, classes and packages are extracted from a version control system via an interface from a local database.
The subsequent analysis of the developed visualization has shown that interpreting the various ""developers-paths"" through the system allows perfectly valid conclusions about the origin and meaning of individual parts (classes and packages) in relation to the whole system to be drawn. It was also possible to discover dependencies between individual developers which suggest that software developers influence each other in their work. |

Simon Hämmerli, Personailiserte Videodienste in mobilen Communities, University of Zurich, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, 2009. (Bachelor's Thesis)
Mobile Communities are a rather new research area and are not established jet. At the beginning of these paper the differences between virtual and mobile communities are discussed and the resulting challenged for mobile communities. Personalisation in the mobile setting has to consider the location too, not only the factors known from the internet.
In the second part a field study in the old town of Zurich showes that tourist videos can support a visit. The travellers said that the videos did not disturb from the sights, actually the videos supported the experience. Not all footages were rated as helpful, there were differences between the people and personalisation is needed. The results of the study point to a promising future for video based traveller guides. |

Adrian Leemann, Kritische Erfolgsfaktoren bei umfangreichen Individualsoftware - Entwicklung in einem Offshore - Modell, University of Zurich, Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology, 2009. (Master's Thesis)
The main objective of this thesis is the research of new critical success factors for
large custom software development projects in an offshore model. Focus is a Global
delivery approach from a vendorís perspective. Problem areas are identified from a
case study of a corresponding project and compared to critical success factors known
from literature. Based on these consolidated findings an elaboration of a set of
new critical success factors, especially valid for analogical projects, is performed.
Where adequate, a testing method used as an early indicator, is propagated. These
new critical success factors would positively influence the control of similar projects. |
