Abstract Text Increasing bank capital requirements haven been widely acknowledged to increase the stability of the banking sector. Nonetheless there has been extensive opposition against such policies from representatives of the banking industry. Bank advocacy groups regularly claim that sub-stantially higher bank capital requirements would result in higher lending spreads and lower credit supply. This thesis aims to examine the relationship between the impact of higher bank capital requirements on business loans using data on the Swiss banking sector.
