| Abstract Text | Software development is becoming increasingly international. In particular, many large projects cannot be undertaken cost-effectively in the customer’s home country. The issues in international projects, arising from the heterogeneity of cultures and irtualization of communication, are widespread and complex. They predominantly affect the management of people and their interaction, but also project organization and documentation require special attention. This diploma thesis deals with the implementation of large scale software projects in a global sourcing strategy. Using a case study on a large project involving the Swiss and Indian subsidiary of a multinational IT company, we look for the main issues that are occurring in real life projects. This basis is combined with theoretical work on culture and management to create guidelines on how to manage such projects in a cost-efficient way. |
| Zusammenfassung | Die Softwareentwicklung wird immer internationaler. Insbesondere grosse Project können oft aus Ressourcenmangel nicht kosteneffizient dort durchgeführt werden wo der Auftrag vergeben wird. Die Problembereiche in der internationalen Projektarbeit gründen in Kulturunterschieden und der virtuellen Eigenschaft der Teams. Betroffen von diesen spezifischen Herausforderungen sind in erster Linie der Umgang mit den Menschen und deren Interaktion, aber auch Organisation und Dokumentation beanspruchen erhöhte Aufmerksamkeit. Diese Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Duchführung von grossen Softwareprojekten in einer globalen Umgebung. Mit Hilfe einer Fallstudie in einem Projekt zwischen der schweizerischen und indischen Niederlassung einer multinationalen IT Firma, werden die Hauptproblembereiche in der täglichen Projektarbeit evaluiert. Auf dieser Basis wird in Kombination mit bestehender Kulturtheorie ein Leitfaden erstellt, wie solche Projekte kosteneffizient zu bewerkstelligen sind. |
