Abstract Text Biometrics has experienced its growth in the last years and is used more frequently in the field of identity verification within passport and access control systems, such as BioLANCC. The target of evaluation for this thesis is the BioLANCC access control system. BioLANCC is a software system that centrally administers the data and biometric hardware and transfers biometric traits to the biometric hardware over a TCP/IP network. New security-relevant questions arise when attaching a software system to a network and exchanging information over it. Also, general concerns about capturing and storing biometric data need consideration. With an overall security protection concept the drawbacks can be avoided and the advantages of biometric access control systems strengthened. This thesis deals with the security-relevant aspects in biometric management software and how security is improved and sustained in BioLANCC.
Zusammenfassung Die Biometrie wird heutzutage zur Identifizierung von Menschen eingesetzt und hat in den letzten Jahren, einen Aufschwung erlebt. Der Einsatz von Biometrie für die Identitätsprüfung wird immer häufiger, und kommt beispielsweise bei Reisepässen in verschiedenen Lädern zur Anwendung. Der Untersuchungsgegenstand dieser Arbeit ist das Zutrittskontrollsystem BioLANCC. BioLANCC ist ein Softwaresystem, welches die notwendigen Datenbestände und biometrischen Geräte zentral verwaltet und biometrische Merkmale über ein TCP/IP Netzwerk auf Zutrittskontrollgeräte, überträgt. Das Anschliessen eines Softwaresystems an ein Netzwerk und der Austausch von Informationen über dieses, birgt neue Gefahren und wirft sicherheitsrelevante Fragen auf. Auch die Bedenken, die das Erfassen und Speichern von biometrischen Daten in der Bevölkerung aufwerfen, sind einzubeziehen. Mit einem umfassenden Sicherheitsschutz werden die Nachteile eines biometrischen Zugriffskontrollsystems abgeschwächt und die Vorteile gestärkt. Diese Arbeit behandelt sicherheitsrelevante Aspekte in Bezug auf biometrische management Software und wie diese für BioLANCC verbessert werden als auch langfristig erhalten bleiben.
