Title Impact of collaborative information technology: an explorative analysis in projects of Swiss financial institutions

Abstract Text Collaborative information technology (CIT) such as instant messaging and video conferencing supports collaborative work. A recent international study has shown that utilization of CIT in organizations is still low. This thesis examines impacts of CIT to better understand these circumstances. For this purpose a research framework was constructed to gather information about CIT use and its impacts in an explorative field study. Interviews in 10 Swiss financial institutions were conducted, with users and providers of CIT. The results show support that CIT leads to impacts like higher effectiveness, quality, time savings, but also higher transparency and team cohesiveness. Significant differences in weighting of impacts between users and providers were found. Implications are drawn for further research.
Zusammenfassung Kooperationssysteme, wie Instant Messaging und Video-Konferenzsysteme unterstu?tzen die Zusammenarbeit. Eine ku?rzlich veröffentlichte Studie hat aufgezeigt, dass die Nutzung solcher Tools in Organisationen noch immer gering ist. In dieser Masterarbeit werden Wirkungen von Kooperationssystemen untersucht, um die Ursachen dieser niedrigen Nutzung zu ergru?nden. Zu diesem Zweck wurde ein Rahmenwerk erstellt, mit welchem in einer explorativen Feldstudie Informationen u?ber die Nutzung und Wirkungen von Kooperationssystemen erhoben werden können. In 10 Schweizer Finanzinstituten wurden damit Interviews mit Benutzern und Verantwortlichen fu?r Kooperationssysteme durchgefu?hrt. Die Resultate zeigen, dass Kooperationssysteme zu Wirkungen wie höhere Effektivität, Qualität, Zeitersparnis, aber auch höhere Transparenz und höheren Zusammenhalt im Team fu?hren können. Zudem wurden signifikante Unterschiede in der Bewertung der Wirkungen zwischen Usern und Verantwortlichen fu?r Kooperationssysteme festgestellt. Implikationen fu?r die weitere Forschung wurden aufgezeigt.
