Abstract Text Tag clouds are visual representations of metadata which is composed of a set of words or ìtagsî. For retrieval purposes users assign tags to objects. Their ability to glance over an information repository makes tag clouds suitable for navigation therein. To give evidence to this assumption, this study conducts an initial user survey which gives rise to a new concept for tag cloud navigation. A prototype is built following this conceptual work. The result is a novel tag cloud which shows tags as word lists, separated by navigation categories. An evaluation conducted with 16 users shows that information gets retrieved significantly faster by using less clicks. Application areas where quick information retrieval is crucial could benefit from these results.
Zusammenfassung Tag Clouds visualisieren Metadaten, welche sich aus Worten oder ""Tags"" zusammensetzen. Benutzer vergeben verschiedenen Objekten Tags, um sie später wiederzufinden. Indem sie einen Überblick über diesen Informationsraum verschaffen, können Tag Clouds hier eine Navigationshilfe darstellen. Um dies näher zu untersuchen, wird in dieser Arbeit mit Benutzern ein Konzept für die Tag-Cloud-Navigation erstellt und anschliessend in einem konkreten Prototyp umgesetzt. Daraus resultiert eine neuartige Tag Cloud, welche die Tags in Listenform zeigt und nach Kategorien aufteilt. Eine Evaluation mit 16 Probanden zeigt auf, dass Informationen signifikant schneller und mit weniger Klicks gefunden werden. Anwendungsbereiche, in welchen die schnelle Informationsfindung kritisch ist, könnten von diesen Ergebnissen profitieren.
