Abstract Text | This thesis investigates whether Swiss family-owned firms performed differently than non-familyowned firms between 2008 and 2018. An empirical analysis with panel data is conducted covering 145 Swiss firms using the fixed effects and random effects model. The main findings suggest that familyowned firms generally exhibit an inferior performance across most but not all financial indicators. This can primarily be explained with the agency theory, the fact of altruistic characteristics in family firms as well as varying capital structures. Additionally, the thesis reveals that during the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009 no difference in performance can be found. |
