Robert Göx, The impact of cost based pricing rules on capacity planning under uncertainty, Schmalenbach Business Review (sbr), Vol. 53 (3), 2001. (Journal Article)
This paper analyzes the efficiency of three simple cost-based pricing heuristics in a twoperiod capacity planning model with uncertain demand. All policies start with full cost introductory prices but differ in second-period pricing. Under “adaptive full-cost pricing”, the firm updates second-period prices on the basis of current demand conditions and full unit costs. Under “wait-and-see pricing”, the firm sets second-period prices on the basis of updated demand information and current opportunity cost of capacity. Under “myopic fullcost pricing”, prices remain constant for both periods. Although we identify one special case for which all three heuristics replicate the optimal solution, we find that “wait-and-see pricing” dominates “adaptive full-cost pricing”, which dominates its ‘myopic’ counterpart. However, we also discuss factors that may justify the use of ‘full-cost pricing’ in real-world planning environments. We note that if the firm faces significant information and/or communication costs, or if price changes will probably only occur in the far future, even the simple “myopic full-cost pricing” heuristic may be a reasonable policy. |

Information and communication technologies are in the process of transforming the way business is conducted in a large number of industries. The impact of this change is not well understood. This paper develops a research agenda that helps to investigate the implications of information and communication technology on selected management fields. In particular, the implications are investigated for strategic management, demand and supply chain management, logistics, organization and leadership, and management education. The research agenda is developed by first identifying impacts of information and communication technologies in the domains discussed. From these impacts, research needs are derived. |

Alexandre Ziegler, Dividend Growth Uncertainty and Stock Prices, Swiss Journal of Economics and Statistics, Vol. 137 (IV), 2001. (Journal Article)
One of the striking phenomena in recent stock market history is the continuous rise in stock prices. Classical explanations for this phenomenon have argued that these apparently high valuations are either caused by measurement error in accounting data, or by high expected future growth in dividends. In this paper, it is shown that a high degree of uncertainty about expected growth in dividends can lead to an increase in stock prices. Moreover, dividend growth uncertainty can lead stock prices to over- or underreact to changes in dividends.

Andrea Schenker-Wicki, Assessing the impact of federal funding to Swiss Universities: a new performance audit concept, International Public Management Review, Vol. 2 (1), 2001. (Journal Article)
Opportunities and risks must undergo careful assessments in order to survive in the world of globalization. This applies not only to the private but also to the public sector, including governmental, political and educational institutions. New control mechanisms must be developed and implemented to measure and monitor the performance of political programs. These tools primarily employ evaluation techniques and performance indicators. The need for such instruments is most acute in political programs and processes where large sums of money are involved, where little information is available about the recipients of monetary contributions and where significant public emotional involvement is apparent, such as in education, social security or public health issues. |

Let Ω be a bounded domain with fractal boundary, for instance von Koch's snowflake domain. First we determine the range and the kernel of the trace on ∂Ω of Sobolev spaces of fractional order defined on Ω. This extends some earlier results of H. Wallin and J. Marschall Secondly we apply these results in studying Dirichlet forms related to subordinate reflecting diffusions in non–smooth domains. |

We consider differential operators of type
Au(x) &=& u(x) + (-1)^{t_1}\frac{\partial ^{2t_1} u(x)}{\partial x_1^{2t_1}}+ (-1)^{t_2}\frac{\partial ^{2t_2} u(x)}{\partial x_2^{2t_2}} , x&=& (x_1,x_2)\in \R ^2 ,
and Sierpinski carpets \G⊂\R$^2$. The aim of the paper is to investigate spectral properties of the fractal differential operator A$^{−1}$∘tr$^Γ$ acting in the anisotropic Sobolev space W$^{(t1,t2)}$2(R$^2$) where tr$^Γ$ is closely related to the trace operator tr$_Γ$. |
