Abstract Text Blockchain technology is said to have the potential to revolutionize entire industries and systems. One area in particular is considered the best fit for blockchain: land registries. Land registries have several issues around the world, such as faulty registers, complex registration systems and various corruption cases. Blockchain-based land registries try to tackle these issues by creating a secure and transparent registration system through the integration of blockchain. This thesis deals with four projects that are being pursued in Sweden, Georgia, Ghana and Honduras. Within these four case studies, the benefits of a blockchain implementation for land registries are outlined and the aspects are shown, under which such a system can work. By analysing the projects, specific advantages have emerged and three aspects were defined, which must be taken into account for a successful blockchain implementation. The findings form the basis for research on further blockchain-based land registries to identify additional benefits and aspects.
Zusammenfassung Der Blockchain-Technologie wird nachgesagt, dass sie das Potenzial hat, ganze Branchen und Systeme zu revolutionieren. Vor allem ein Gebiet wird als ´Best Fit' für die Blockchain angesehen: die Grundbuchsysteme. Diese Systeme haben weltweit mit verschiedenen Problemen zu kämpfen, wie fehlerhafte Register, komplexe Registrierungssysteme und diverse Korruptionsfälle. Blockchain-basierte Grundbücher versuchen diese Probleme anzugehen, indem durch die Integration der Blockchain ein sicheres und transparentes Registrierungssystem erschaffen wird. Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit vier Blockchain-Projekten, die in Schweden, Georgien, Ghana und Honduras verfolgt werden. Innerhalb dieser vier Fallstudien werden die Vorteile einer Blockchain-Implementierung für das Grundbuchsystem angeführt und aufgezeigt, unter welchen Aspekten ein solches System funktionieren kann. Durch die Analyse der Projekte haben sich spezifische Vorteile herausgebildet und es drei Aspekte definiert, welche für eine erfolgreiche Implementierung der Blockchain berücksichtigt werden müssen. Die Erkenntnisse bilden eine Grundlage für die Forschung an weiteren Blockchain-basierten Grundbüchern, um weitere Vorteile und Aspekte zu identifizieren.
