Abstract Text This thesis employs a sample of executive compensation data of around 70 of the largest German companies from 2006 to 2016. It gives a comprehensive overview on level, structure, and pay-for-performance. I document a substitution of short-term by long-term variable pay over the time period observed. There turns out to be a positive pay-for-performance relationship, which weakens with a decrease in company size.
